Whereas, I William Brittain of the County of Guilford and State of North Carolina being of sound memory and perfect understanding well knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death one time or other --- therefore I leave behind me theis following lines as my Last Will and Testament revoking and making avoid all theis wills heretofore made by me that is to say. Principle and First of all recommend my sole to the Lord and my Body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named or either of them. It is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges to be paid and fully satisfied. And secondly --- I give and devise unto my son Hennary Brittain that part of my land lying on the South west of the branch cald Misfris branch and joining Calops Pearsons and Joseph Unthanks line with they improvement thereon. Thirdly --- I give and devise unto my son Joseph Brittain between they said Misfris branch and a line begining at a postaok corner on my North line on thee East side of the great road and running a straite corse to they corner of William Coffin's field the North corner of sd. field near the maple branch on my line with they improvements thereon. Forthly --- I give and devise unto my son William Brittain all the remaining parts of my land with they improvement thereon. Fifthly --- I give unto my daughter Hannah Hunt five shillings and to my daughter heirs Witty five shillings -- and to my daughter Rebekah Robinson five shillings. And to my daughter Nancy Robinson five shillings -- and to my daughter Ruth Brittain five shillings -- and to my daughter Anne Brittain five shillings -- and they remaining part of my estate I give to my loving wife Rebekah Brittain to be at his disposal while she remains the widow of mine but if she maries it is my will that the remainder part of my estate be evnilly divided between my two daughters namely Ruth Brittain and Anne Brittain and further it is my will that my wife shall have her mintain(?)ence(?) by the prophets of my land while she remains they widow of me -- I constitute and order my loving wife Rebekah Brittain and my trusty friend Joshua Dix to be my sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and I do order and impower them to make over by deed or deeds or conveyances of they aforementioned land according to law -- and I do hereby revoke and and make void all former wills made by me declaring this to be my last Will and Testament. As witnessmy hand and seal this first day of January in the year of our Lord 1794 Signed, sealed and pronounced to be my William (his X mark) Brittain (seal) State of North Carolina, Guilford County.
